BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN,  (Xinhua) — Oppression in all forms, especially from those entrusted with power and authority, cannot be tolerated and must be rooted out of the country, said Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

According to local media on Friday, delivering a titah on the eve of Maulidur Rasul, or the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, the Sultan highlighted that “in this age full of turmoil, justice is tainted by irresponsible and ruthless parties who steal away people’s happiness by means of oppression.”

The monarch warned that oppression cannot be tolerated and has no place in the sultanate.

He also said that oppression usually comes from those entrusted with power and authority, including those in the workforce and service environment.

“This is why I am obliged to remind that anyone entrusted with position and power must not use them to oppress other people,” the monarch added.
